Catedral do Barcelona and east of the Gothic Quarter

Morning view of the Cathedral, actually named Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia. Construction took 150 years, and was completed in 1339. Gothic, with some later neo-Gothic additions.

The back side of the cathedral has this famous gothic bridge spanning a typically narrow street.

Inside is cavernous.

A surprise open garden in the middle...

...complete with geese. This is a long standing tradition. This area is called the Well of the Geese, completed in 1448. There are always 13 geese here, representing the age of Saint Eulalia when she was martyred by the Romans. How do I know this? This was the exact same scenario when we first visited the cathederal some 45 years ago...

...And here we are in 1971. Edith and Abbi on the left, Pauline (our au pair) and Faye on the right. Only the names of the geese have changed.

The interior of the cathederal is old but beautiful.

Here we are again in 1971. On Sundays there is all day dancing in front of the Cathedral. Still going on?

Yes! Only larger crowd of dancers. Lots of fun.

East of the Gothic Quarter

Really beautiful buildings in this area.

Tree lined streets and beautiful residential areas.

The Barcelona Arc de Triomf is the gateway to the very large city park, Parc de La Ciutadella.

And the gate of the actual park.

Check out these amazing street lights.

Off the typical tourist trail, this park is full of locals enjoying themselves in a beautiful environment.

Lots more interesting buildings on the walk back to our apartment.

These amazing museum candidates are beautifully maintained, and many are under restoration.

This Art Nouveau beauty is one of my favorites.
